Lavender Melaleuca Natural Deodorant

Posted by Jennifer Lane on

Most antiperspirants contain aluminum, which is not safe for the body.  Many also contain synthetic fragrances which can be carcinogenic and toxic.  Do you want these on your body?  I surely don't.  I wanted a natural deodorant.  So I went on a quest to find a non-toxic underarm freshener.

I spent about 30 minutes in the drug store a few months ago trying to find a deodorant WITHOUT aluminum or synthetic fragrances and let me tell you, it ended up being a waste of time.  I read the labels of the "popular" brands you see on TV and was so disappointed that they all had toxic chemicals in them.  There were no all natural deodorant options.  That is when I decided I needed to make my own.

Natural Deodorant

I knew essential oil would make a great natural deodorant so I tried to a few of them neat (undiluted) to my underarms.  Lavender essential oil worked the best out of the ones that I tried, I just had to reapply every few hours.  I also knew that melaleuca would be great because it is a strong antiseptic.  This recipe has both essential oils plus baking soda and arrowroot (or cornstarch) to help with perspiration.

DIY Natural Deodorant Recipe:

  2. Apply a pea-size amount to each underarm
  3. Keep in a recycled closed container or salve jar.

Blue Essential Oil JarsYou can try different essential oils and customize this recipe to your liking. If I learned anything from using essential oils over the years, it is that essential oils can be substituted to suit your need or what oils you have available in your arsenal. If you find a great recipe but do not have the exact oils it calls for, try it with the oils you have at your home. I know not everybody has shelves full of different oils but even with a few essential oils, you can create wonderful recipes!
