The best way to start your day is with a fresh face. The skin on our faces is the most delicate and it needs extra care, too! That's why I created this easy essential oil sugar scrub for face recipe that will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to tackle life's challenges.

While there are many essential oil choices for using in a sugar scrub recipe, here are 5 that I like to use on delicate facial skin.

1. Lavender Essential Oil (Lavandula angustifolia):

Ok, come on, you knew this one would make the list right?! Lavender is frequently used in skin care routines because of its gentle nature and healing properties. It is soothing and regenerative to skin.

Lavender is a natural anti-inflammatory and antiseptic that can be used for many things. One of the most popular ways to use lavender oil is applying it topically on your face. This helps to reduce inflammation, prevent acne breakouts, and rejuvenate skin cells.

Lavender essential oil is also known for its calming properties which means you will feel less anxious after using this product in your skincare routine as well!

2. Frankincense Essential Oil (Boswellia carterii):

Frankincense essential oil is often used for face and skin care. It has been long known for its antibacterial properties, which can help to reduce acne and other blemishes on the skin.

This skin friendly oil is renewing and restorative. Frankincense supports youthful, healthy skin so it makes a great addition in any sugar scrub but especially good for facial skin.

Frankincense is also a great anti-inflammatory agent that can be helpful with many common skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Frankincense oil offers a variety of benefits for the user including healing scars and age spots, improving moods and stress levels, boosting immunity and decreasing anxiety.

3. Geranium Essential Oil (Pelargonium graveolens):

Geranium offers outstanding skin benefits for calming and soothing skin and is frequently found in skin care products. It's perfect for those with oily skin, as it helps balance your oil production and reduce excess sebum. It also works to tighten the pores and protect against environmental damage.

Geranium essential oil is great for your skin, in particular acne-prone areas. It can be used to help with wrinkles because it's anti-inflammatory and helps to soften the lines on your face. It also contains antimicrobial properties that will keep any blemishes at bay!

If you're looking for a natural way to treat dry skin, geranium oil is perfect because it has moisturizing properties that will restore moisture back into your face. The best part about using this oil is that it smells amazing, so you'll never want to stop using it.

Whether you need a soothing treatment or a revitalizing pick-me-up, geranium essential oil can be of assistance!

4. Sandalwood Essential Oil (Santalum album):

Did you know sandalwood essential oil is great for skin? One of the higher priced essential oils, sandalwood promotes youthful appearing skin. It offers astringent and emollient properties, helping to smooth and soothe skin.

There are many benefits of sandalwood oil for skin, including increased circulation and reducing inflammation. It has antibacterial properties, which may help to reduce acne. Sandalwood also has anti inflammatory properties that can help to heal sunburns and other skin issues.

If you're looking for something different than tea tree oil or lavender in your skincare routine, try sandalwood!

5. Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia):

Tea tree essential oil is great for the skin and frequently use for acne prone skin. It is revered for its cleansing and regenerative properties.

Tea tree oil has been frequently used to treat skin conditions and infections. Tea tree is a natural antiseptic that can help soothe acne, reduce inflammation or redness, and kill bacteria.

Homemade Essential Oil Sugar Scrub For Face

A fun and easy way to get a spa-like facial at home is with an essential oil sugar scrub. Sugar scrubs are great for exfoliating dead skin cells, moisturizing the skin, and giving your face a healthy glow. Plus the wonderful benefits of essential oils not only add skincare benefits but also the aromatic benefits from smelling them as you use this homemade recipe.

  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar (packed down)
  • 3 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 6 drops of Essential oils
  • 2 oz Glass jar

Directions: Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Use essential oil or oils of choice. I like 3 drops of sandalwood and 3 drops of lavender. Once ingredients are blended together, place into jar.

How to Use Essential Oil Facial Scrub

On freshly washed skin, take approximately one tablespoon of the scrub and rub into facial skin using gentle, circular motions. Be careful to avoid the eyes. Gently scrub face for 60 seconds, then rinse with warm water and pat dry. Repeat once per week.

Essential Oil Face Scrub Tips

Be sure to use a fine sugar if you decide to swap out brown sugar for another sugar type. You are using on delicate facial tissue so you don't want anything too abrasive, scratchy or rough.

This recipe makes 2 ounces which is equal to 4 tablespoons, so if you use about one tablespoon each treatment and do this facial scrub once a week, this recipe can last you one month.

I personally like to use my DIY products up within a month or two so that way my homemade products stay fresh. That's the whole point of making homemade right? To have fresh, natural and chemical free beauty products. I like to place a small circle sticker at the bottom of my homemade items with the date I made it so there is no guessing.

Make sure to add this homemade sugar scrub for face to your skin care routine.

Why Exfoliating Your Face Is Beneficial?

As our skin ages, its natural ability to shed skin cells slows causing dead skin cells and oil to build up and clog pores. Exfoliating skin at least once per week can help remove dead skin and bring out a more glowing complexion.

This simple facial scrub is easy to make and use. To use, gently massage in circular pattern for about 1 minute and then rinse off.
