A close relative of Atlas Cedarwood, Himalayan Cedarwood tree is a symbol of strength and abundance. When used in Aromatherapy, it offers grounding effects and balances emotions. Cedarwood Himalayan essential oil is prized for its calming, cleansing, and harmonizing properties. 

The sweet, yet woody aroma of this oil is especially loved during the winter months. It has excellent properties for supporting and maintaining a healthy respiratory system. It helps to remove phlegm from the lungs and ease congestion. Perfect oil to use if you have a cold or cough.

Cedarwood Himalayan is versatile and powerful but there is a wonderful gentleness to this oil. It is one of my favorite oils for children.

I love all the different varieties of cedarwood, while their aromas have slight variations, they always add such depth to oil blends.

Safety Precautions:

Non-toxic, non-sensitizing, kid friendly oil. Some sources advise to avoid Cedarwood during pregnancy, however there is no research to support this claim regarding this particular species of cedarwood.

Avoid old or oxidized oils, they may cause skin sensitization. Store oil in dark, airtight container. Not phototoxic.

Cedarwood Himalayan Essential Oil Uses

- Place one drop in the palm of hand, rub hands together then deeply inhale the aroma to relieve stress.

- Add it to diffuser at night with lavender or vetiver to promote sleep.

- Place a couple of drops into a spray bottle with alcohol free witch hazel, shake well, and spray on face for an all natural facial toner.

- Blend with a carrier oil and rub onto your chest and neck to help with cough and congestion.

- Add a drop to a diffuser necklace to keep calm at work.

- Place 1-2 drops on the shower floor just before you get in to support a healthy mind and body.

- Use with aloe vera gel as aftershave to relieve razor burn.

- Mix with jojoba oil and citronella oil (or lemongrass) to use as a natural insect repellent.

Congestion Inhaler Blend

Empower the lungs with these respiratory supportive oils

  • 5 drops Cedarwood Himalayan (Cedrus deodara)
  • 5 drops Eucalyptus (any variety)
  • 5 drops Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)

Sleepy Diffuser Blend

Bring on the Z's with this sedative oil blend

  • 3 drops Himalayan Cedarwood (Cedrus deodara)
  • 3 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
  • 1 drop Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
  • 1 drop Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides)

Cough Ease Roller Blend

Tame a cough with these natural expectorant oils

  • 3 drops Cedarwood Himalayan (Cedrus deodara)
  • 3 drops Black Spruce (Picea mariana)
  • 2 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
  • 2 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
  • Jojoba Oil
  • 10 ml Roller Bottle

Add essential oils to roller bottle and top off with jojoba oil. Roll onto chest and back for respiratory support. 5% dilution.

Concentration Diffuser Blend

When focus and concentration is required, try this oil blend

  • 3 drops Cedarwood Himalayan (Cedrus deodara)
  • 2 drops Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
  • 2 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)

Add essential oils to diffuser with recommended water.

Calm & Clear Diffuser Blend

Perfect blend to use before bedtime to promote clear breathing and a calm atmosphere

  • 2 drops Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus dives)
  • 2 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
  • 2 drops Cedarwood (Cedrus deodara)
  • 2 drops Tangerine (Citrus reticulata)

Add essential oils to diffuser with recommended water.

Sleep Tight Kids Roller Blend

Little ones will fall asleep fast with this blend

Add essential oils to roller bottle and top off with jojoba oil. Roll onto chest and back for respiratory support. 1% dilution.

Breathe Freely Chest Rub

Supportive respiratory blend to open airways and clear congestion

  • 4 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
  • 4 drops Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis)
  • 2 drops Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus dives)
  • 2 drops Cedarwood (Cedrus deodara)
  • 1 oz jojoba oil
  • 1 oz lotion pump bottle

Place ingredients into bottle and shake to blend. To use, rub on chest. 2% dilution. For kids, cut drops in half for a 1% dilution level (2 drops frank, 2 drops juniper, 1 drop eucalyptus dives, 1 drop cedarwood).

General Essential Oil Precautions

Never use essential oils undiluted, in eyes or mucous membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified practitioner. Keep out of reach from children.

Use essential oils with extreme caution on children, be sure you have researched the oil and that it is safe for use on kids. Plant Therapy clearly labels their oils "KidSafe" on the bottle if the oil can be used for children ages 2–10).

If applying an essential oil topically (on your skin), it is best practice to always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body, use 1-2 drops in a teaspoon of carrier oil like jojoba oil.
