Orange Diffuser Blends: Safety Guidelines

Diffuse for 30 minutes to 1 hour at a time. Read more about how long to diffuse oils.

Sweet orange is one of the gentlest oils and is generally fine to diffuse around children ages 2 and up. Blends with cinnamon, clove, rosemary or spearmint are best for adults and older children.

Diffuse in a ventilated room, and keep diffusers in rooms that cats, birds and other pets can leave. Citrus oils can bother cats in particular.

Don't apply undiluted essential oils to the skin. When using essential oils topically, dilute them in a carrier oil like jojoba or sweet almond oil. Use fresh orange oil, since old, oxidized citrus oils are more likely to irritate skin.

Everyone responds to essential oils a little differently, so what works for one person may not work for you. Learn more about what to do when essential oils don't work.
