Blue Tansy Essential Oil Uses, Beneifts & Recipes - EO Spotlight

Blue Tansy Essential Oil Uses, Beneifts & Recipes - EO Spotlight

Have you ever used Blue Tansy essential oil? It is quite an experience... the beautiful deep blue color it has, plus its fresh and enticing aroma.

Adored for its skin soothing and renewing action, Blue Tansy is frequently used in DIY Skincare recipes.

This is a powerhouse oil for the mind and body. I like to think of it as peace in a bottle because of its immensely calming effects. It supports respiratory health as well.

Blue Tansy Oil vs Tansy Oil

Do not mix up Blue Tansy oil with Tansy oil (Tanacetum vulgare). Tansy oil is toxic and should not be used.

Be sure to look at labels and the botanical names so you are getting the correct one. Blue Tansy oil (Tanacetum annum) is what you want.

The indigo blue color can stain some surfaces and fabrics so use caution. It may also temporarily leave blue color on skin but with proper dilution it is unlikely to leave any trace.

5 Blue Tansy Essential Oil Uses

#1. Refresh Skin

Blue Tansy oil promotes healthy skin and soothes troubled skin. Use 2 teaspoons of carrier oil, like argan oil, and add 2 drops to assist with red and inflamed skin.

#2. Soothe Discomfort

The chemical component called chamazulene (which gives this oil its beautiful blue color) is known to reduce discomfort from inflammation. Blue Tansy applied topically can relieve overworked joints and muscles.

#3. Feel Relaxed

Blue Tansy helps to ease a worried mind and promote calmness. Try in an essential oil massage oil. Use 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil and add 3 drops lavender, 2 drops orange, and 1 drop of blue Tansy.

#4. Be Encouraged

This unique and complex oil encourages the spirit with its sweet, fresh aroma. Use in an aromatherapy inhaler when needing a motivating boost of confidence and energy.

#5. Breathe Easy

Blue Tansy can help to open the airways and allow for easier breathing. Use in a diffuser and enjoy deep, revitalizing breaths.

General Essential Oil Precautions

Never use essential oils undiluted, in eyes or mucous membranes. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified practitioner. Keep out of reach from children.

Avoid old or oxidized oils, they may cause skin sensitization. Store oil in dark, airtight container.

Use essential oils with extreme caution on children, be sure you have researched the oil and that it is safe for use on kids. Plant Therapy clearly labels their oils "KidSafe" on the bottle if the oil can be used for children ages 2–10).

If applying an essential oil topically (on your skin), it is best practice to always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body, use 1-2 drops in a teaspoon of carrier oil like jojoba oil.

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, epileptic, or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician. For more information on oil safety issues, read Essential Oil Safety by Robert Tisserand and Rodney Young.
